Anyone else do this?

I arrived late at playgroup the other day so the lot was full & I had to park way far away from the door. I'm about 3/4 of the way to the door when I realize I'm looking in everyone's backseat to see what seats they have:whistle: Geez, I probably looked like I was looking for a good car to break into:eek::D

The better question, at least to members here at c-s.org, would be "Does anyone else NOT do this?".
Because we're all a bunch of safety freaks.

Though, some of us have learned not to look too much into other peoples cars, because then you see the long expired OHS in the $40,000 car, or the forward facing infant seat installed in the front seat, or the CarGo instealled rear-facing....

I am so bad. I'll be in the grocery store/peds office/etc. and see a baby and be like "I bet he's FFing"

I always joke that I'll be the one that causes an accident trying to see how people's children are restrained. Yeah, not good.

HA! That is what my husband says about me(and knock on wood so far I have a perfect driving record minus the accident I was in when I was 16).

On walks, at the parking lot, the mall, etc.

There is a car down the street I keep hopign will have a new car seat in it every time I pass (an old Century with the ribbed plastic around the crotch buckle. I'm not sure how old it is but I have dealt with seats now for 10+ years so it's gotta be older than that.)

I always end up thinking that if I ever when the lotto I'm going to buy cases of car seats and trade them for expired ones. I'd bet I could get some really neat (and old) seats.

Lot's of OHS

and one car with a HWH seat.....wonder whose car that is? :p

Does anyone else get bent out of shape when cartoon characters are riding improperly restrained or in OHS? Really, they're just cartoon characters, but unfortunately TV seems to be the biggest way of selling things as normative to kids.

Come on cartoon makers

There have been many threads here discussing the car-seat and seat belt situation of DW Reed, those big headed kids on the Disney Channel, Maggie Simpson, Stanley, the Rugrats...and those kids in Baby Blues, among other cartoons and comic strips.

To say the folks here are obsessed is a bit of an understatement.

I'm always peaking in cars... even got DH to be the look-out while a gawked to get a good view of the brand etc. I'm a little OCD when it comes to seats and I feel like buying one of everything just so I have something to play with... just not sure where I would store all my toys

I haven't seen one on Caillou but I've only been on since Aug. Rosie's seat just has convinced that Canadian seat must be weird. looks like an OHS with the shoulder belt in font of her but under the shield...

Back on topic.. it's nice to know other people are obsessed too. It make me feel somewhat normal :D

I'm sure we've discussed Caillou, if only to talk about how much I hate that show.

A lot of the car-seats on cartoons are oddly drawn. They drive me batty.

A brief mention of the horrible whiney show here. With a guess. lol

I do this too even though I try so hard not to because I usually wind up upset. It's like a bad train wreck you don't want to look but you can't stop yourself!

Lot's of OHS

While standing on the corner waiting for the light to change, 3 out of 4 cars that had seats in it were OHS. uggg

I see them at daycare all the time.

There is one girl with a Blvd and I told her she has a great car seat,s he was soo proud of herself lol

Not only do I peek, I just ordered a box of the USAA pamphlets on car seats to leave on cars.

That's a really good idea, especially since where I live I see most people pull up at the grocery store (one of the 3 stores in my town) and over half of them don't even use car seats. I get so upset when I see these little kids in the lap of the front seat passenger and sometimes even driver. I would love to hand them a pamphlet. And I have never seen a high weight harness in a car here.

I do it all the time, well, most of the time. I've stopped looking at school because I'm tired of seeing kids who are barely 1 in the thickest coat you can find ff'ing in an old ohs seat. There are so many babies K's age (more than average, she was born just shy of 9 months after our wonderful Oct ice storm, and people had to keep warm somehow!) already ff'ing, and most of them in seats that have been handed down for a few children and probably expired.

I watch at intersections - I notice horrible situations. Just to sum it up, I witnessed in the right hand lane - a child 2-3 years old in the back seat of a sedan without ANY restraint, and the driving adult was smoking. The windows, I am sorry to say, were closed except for 1 inch on the drivers/smokers side.

I am not without fault. But I try my BEST to let my faults be my own. sigh.

I do look in other people's car seats, but not for brands or installation-I have this need to be sure there's not a baby in there that someone forgot. There are too many cases of babies or children dying when left alone in a car and so as I walk through parking lots, if I see a seat I have to double take. They actually did a story on that "What would you do?" show-glad to know I think I'd pass the test.
