Help!! belts forward of bight

Recently, we were given a 97 Grand Am by my inlaws, which is really great, except the seat belts in the backseat are all forward of the bight. The belts in the outboard positions are in the bight, but the latch is forward of the bight. We have a Britax Marathon in my car, RF attached using LATCH, and I didn't want to spend that type of money for a secondary seat so we bought the Eddie Bauer 3-in-1. It specifically states it can't be used with these seat belts not to mention it in no way fit in the back seat RF, so back it went and I tried the MA. No matter how hard I try I just can't get a tight fit. I haven't tried it in the outboard positions...only the center. I really don't want to give up the center position if I don't have to. Britax and Pontiac were both less then helpful, so any help you guys could give me would be very much appreciated.

If you can't get it in in the middle, then try the outboard. It's safer to have a good install outboard over a bad install in the middle. Sometimes there's not much you can do w/ seatbelts forward of the seat bight, sometimes it's works, sometimes not. Try twisting the stalk, maybe that will help (up to 3x).

If all else fails, see a tech and have them give it a try. Sometimes we have tricks and techniques that can get seats in when parents have given up hope.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to give the outboard position a try today. I left a message with a tech on Friday, but I haven't heard back from her yet. I hope to have an appointment with her in the next few days. I want to have it checked out even if I do get it in where I'm comfortable with it. Thanks again!!
