This is why the True Fit will not tighten all the way....

I know I have seen others post on here that when using it for a baby they can't get it tight enough or the adjuster acts like it is stuck. Well this happened 2 times with me when I had my other TF's. I would just simply let out the adjuster and guide it back. Well today I couldn't. I wasn't sure what was wrong so after picking up the kids from school I uninstalled DS5's TF and found this......

The harness is caught in the splitter plate!! I don't use the adjuster with DS5 since he is the only child to sit in this seat so my guess is when I pull one side of the continous harness to put one arm in and then pull the other side for get his other arm in it is causing the harness to slack enough to get caught in the plate. I don't see this happening on the higher slots just because where the splitter plate is on the lowest setting. This may be why alot of parents are having a hard time getting a tight fit with newborns or young babies.:shrug-shoulders: And it is not easily seen unless you uninstall the seat.

Should I call LC and let them know that I am having this problem with my seat??

This really worries me because I know alot of parents won't be able to uninstall the seat to get it untangled and get it back installed correctly .:(

Any thoughts?.....

Wow! I'm glad you were able to find out what was wrong and fix it, but you're right, a lot of parents don't know what's causing it, and may not know what to look for.

I think it's worth a call to the manufacturer. You never know, this may be something happening quite frequently, and they'd need to know. At least this way, they'll have a record of it happening incase others have the same problem. :twocents: Even if it's a fluke, it doesn't cause any harm to call.

Huh, that's really bizarre is my first thought. It's the same design that the 3in1 seats have in terms of the continuous loop, so I'm not sure why it would be catching.

I'd just shorten the harness to the shorter loops for now and that will prevent the problem from happening I'm guessing.

And definitely give them a call and see what they say. Can it get caught if the hip straps are already pulled up and tight before the adjuster strap is pulled? Not that it really matters... if parents do things in a different order and there's the loop hanging loosely at the bottom of the seat it's going to be a problem...

See Trudy thats the thing, I don't use the adjuster at all once I have the harness set at the right tightness for him. I just take advantage of the continous harness. It is bizarre since I never had this happen with either one of my EFTA's. I will go move the harness to the shorter loops and see if it helps.

Do you mean 3in1's?

The EFTA isn't continuous loop, so that's why I'm thinking you just said differently than what you meant. :p

I've had my seat on the shorter set of loops pretty much right since I got it because the splitter plate otherwise was sitting on the bend and I couldn't get the harness quite tight enough. I've never bothered to move it back since it goes long enough still for dd even in the top slots. :)

Keep us updated with what they say.

definitely let them know, but I have a recommendation for a quick fix... take a rubber band for each side... and wrap it around the end of each side of the splitter plate... not only will it make the strap not fit if it got in the opening, but it should close off the opening, if you go ahead and get ones long enough to wrap across to the other side of the opening.

You know what's interesting...I have a compass infant seat and had that exact thing happen to me before! It's only happened once in the 1+ years I've been using it.
