Radian and buckle stalks

Added pics!!

I want to install a radian in the center of my third row. It has a lap belt only with a locking latchplate. From where the buckle stalk comes out of the van seat to the top of the locking latchplate measures 9". I can twist the stalk and gain maybe an inch. The radian will likely be pulled away from the seat bight some giving a little more room as well.

How high is the belt path on the radian? Do you think I will be able to install it there? I have leather seats and they do not recline.

Thanks

ETA to add pics - excuse the crumbs and I just realized the buckle stalk is twisted

Mel, I can't really help you there since all of my seats have a l/s belt, but just bumping so someone can.:) Oh and I did try the RN RF in the center of my Frontiers and it wouldn't fit that way either. The cup holders are keeping the base from fitting. Good luck.:D

The Radian belt path is REALLY low. I don't know but is it possible to have the latch plate completely inside the belt path? Is that safe? I've done it on airplanes, but not sure about in a car. Because that sounds like it might work better than trying to keep it out of the belt path in this case. I'm thinking all the way in might be better than half in/half out or all the way out and unable to tighten.

All the way in is fine, as long as it is ALL the way in. You just don't want to have the buckle sitting on the corner of the beltpath.

What kind of vehicle do you drive? Maybe somebody will know off the top of their head if it will work or not.

All the way in or all the way out of the belt path is acceptable. The problem I could see is depending on how bulky the latch plate is there's potential for it to be uncomfortable behind the child's back. I've never heard complaints of it, but the piece that covers the belt path really isn't that stiff so if the buckle did push on it at all I think it would be uncomfortable.

I added pics to the first post. Thanks

I drive an 02 Chevy Venture. The locking latchplate is pretty big and I don't see how it could all fit in the beltpath since the buckle is pretty close to the seat.

Thanks guys:)

I don't know. It looks to be challenging for both installs-ff and rf. We have 2 Radians and have successfully installed them in a number of vehicles (LATCH and seatbelt), but that seat belt install always gives me bloody knuckles.

If it's going ff, the belt path is right behind the child's back and the seat isn't overly padded. FF, I don't think both of your buckles will be able to enter the belt path. If they can, I think they'll poke your kiddo in the back. Ouch.

The long buckle stalks are just as difficult with a rf install. The belt path is really low. But, the new boot might make a difference in this, so who knows.

Can you get your hands on one?

I have to order one. The closest store that carries it is over 2 hours away. If the radian doesn't fit, I'll have to put the baby there.:( Which means I get to crawl over a seat and through the captain's chairs every time I leave the house. Doesn't sound too fun.

Thanks for your help.

We haven't had an unsuccessful install yet. But, be prepared for a challenge (and if it's easy, be glad) and to spend some time trying. Have you looked at the Radian successful install thread to see if your vehicle is there?

I'd buy it. Target carries them and it could be returned to the store, if need be (I think). They ship free too.

There aren't any in that location in my van in the successful install thread. I did look there.

I don't have a target either. We kinda live in the middle of nowhere.:p

Do you have Walmart? They carry it online and you could also return it to the store. I think most stores offer site to store shipping now.

I do have a walmart about 45 min away. I was hoping to get an XT from hipmonkey and get the return insurance but they won't have them until April and I'm not patient enough to wait that long to see if it works.

Those look about like the buckle stalks in DH's car (99 buick regal) and I get a great install twisting the buckle stalks - don't remember if it's 3X or only once or twice.

I'm not sure. Is this for FFing or RFing? If RFing, honestly I don't think it would work. I could barely get it to work with "normal" seatbelts. Forward facing may work, but if the buckle goes completely in the belt path that would be very uncomfortable.

The belt path is so high though that I don't see how you'd get it all the way in, so it might be on an angle which isn't allowed.

My offer still stands to try ours our next weekend :) I'd be more than happy to play with it with you and then you can know if you should order or not.
