booster or loose Frontier?

Is it better to use a Booster or a loosely installed Frontier?

My parents pick up my kids maybe 12 times a year. They could install the Evenflos we used to use ok, but I don't think they would be able to install the Frontiers. (I could hardly do it!) Is it better to risk a loose install with a Frontier, or use a booster?

My kids are both 4.5, 40" 37lbs, and 42" 42 lbs. (of course the boosters say they are for 30-100 lbs.)

Also, when we go to Disney in March... Check boosters or check Frontiers? (I don't think we will take the seats on the plane... to hard to cary two car seats and take two 4.5 year olds through security... IMO, maybe some of you have done it... I have taken the twins through in strollers without car seats and it was no picnic... especially at Spring break time) Usually we rent seats from the rental car company, but I'm not as sure about their boosters.... plus last trip we installed at least 6 different seats before we found two that we could feel safe with. Suggestions?

Re: booster of loose Frontier?

i'd go with boosters in both cases. a properly installed & used seat (including a booster) is much safer than one that isn't.

I agree. I'd also take 2 boosters to Disney. I've done the airport with 2 kids (14 months and 3 years) and it's not fun with all their junk.

Feel like it is all I say lately, but what about RSTVs? If you are not taking seats on the plane, you can toss them in your bag and don't have to worry about the seats getting damaged, plus they should be easy enough for grandparents to use.

While I agree that the RSTV's would be good travel seats, I'm not sure I'd rate them as very grandparent-friendly - threading the belt through the belt guides could be a bit tricky for hands that have lost a bit of strength and range of motion over the past 30 years, and in my experience anyway the buckle releases require more strength than the seat belt releases (my girls and any of their first-grader classmates who use our RSTV need the help of an adult or our 3rd grade boy scout carpool neighbor to get unbuckled). My 80-something MIL had no problem buckling my DD's in their Parkways when they were 4YO's but I know she wouldn't like navigating the multiple buckles and belt guides of the RSTV.

Hee Hee, I am in my mid 40's and I'm the mommy installing the seats!! My parents are not quite up to jamming two frontier's into the back of their PT cruiser!

Thanks for the suggestions. I think we will check out the vests. Otherwise I will feel good about the vests.

We do have the cares harness, but I think we have outgrown them now.... don't they only go up to 40"?
