Combi Coccoro Infant Car Seat

Here's some more information that I posted on another thread, based on info from Safe Ride News:

The Combi Coccoro--the convertible meant to fit tiny cars--will have top slots of 13.5 inches. Based on the photos (this one is from carseatblog), I'm actually surprised they're that high. Seriously, that seat looks TINY.

Anyway, it will have integrated FF lockoffs, but the RF lockoff "will be attached by a strap to the CR."

Also, it will require the use of a separate 1-inch thick foam pad to be placed under the seat in FF mode. Besides the likelihood that a parent will lose the pad before using the seat FF, it will likely open a whole new can of worms for using non-approved pads under seats. Weird.

Not sure you'll get much RFing or FFing time out of the seat. Its a nice concept, but doesn't address the fact that you will need another seat after. And if all you can fit is this seat, then what are you supposed to do?

umm...backless booster? duh....

No, but seriosuly, I think it's a truly idiotic concept. From what I can tell, it will offer very little RF room over an infant bucket, and then will allow for almost no FF time either..i mean......top slots LOWER than the crappysport?

It's just....:hitselfonhead:

I LOVE the colors though.....very pretty. And the seat has a neat design...but it doesn't look much taller than an infant seat

But if it gets a child safely through a couple of years until the parents can afford a larger car then I see some value to it. It will be interesting to see how long a child can RF in it, especially if it has 15" top slots

I have seen this seat and it is crazy small. I had a pic of it, but I lost my memory card. It just doesn't make any sense to me.

I love the Combi infant seats and this would fit a niche, but unfortunately I seem to have long-torsoed babies who wouldn't get much life out of it. I would buy this over an infant seat in a heartbeat though.

We have a Combi Coccoro in each car. We've had it from 8 months to 21 months (his age now). I anticipate buying another carseat before the end of the year. We've taken it to Europe, I've been in an accident with one (and my son didn't even notice). It's a great little carseat. My son has a long torso and is big (though not huge) for his age. we have compact cars (more fuel efficient!) and are able to fit two adults either side of him. Many of my friends can't put anyone next to their kids in the backseat. It's a phenomenal carseat, my little dude is very happy it in. Just my $0.02 since no one who owns it has commented.

When this thread was started over a year ago, the Coccoro hadn't been released yet. All of the previous comments were speculation. It has become a favorite seat of many people since then and if you search some newer threads, you will find the .

We now know it has a deceivingly tall shell. Not tall enough to last the average child much past 2 years old RF, but taller than most infant seats. It also has a higher shell and top slots than the Britax Roundabout but still takes up less space. It's really great in certain applications and I have one myself. :D

LOL, how times change. I was one of the biggest critics of this seat before it came out, and then I was (I think) the first to get one. I now have two, and the Coccoro has become one of my favorite seats ever.

I'm sure there's a lesson in that somewhere. Not judging a car seat by its cover? No, that's not it...

If the seat was in a car accident, it should not be used anymore.

Depends on the accident. Combi (for the Coccoro, at least) defers to NHTSA's guidelines. If it was a minor crash, the manufacturer says it's fine to continue use.
