Can anyone with one of these clarify how dee p the side wings are because on the pics they dont look very wide at all.

6 inches at the deepest, on my seat. They don't look very deep, but really they are about the same as say, a marathon, if not a bit deeper. Plus, just by being RF you get a substantial amount of side impact protection.

Lara is correct. The seat is quite wide and the wings don't look deep but the seat offer good SIP. The largest advantage in side collisions is sitting rear facing. It's a huge difference compared to forward facing. While rear facing the child is pressed further into the seat instead of pushed out of the chair exposing the body while forward facing.
