Do you have to tether the Radian ff?

It is highly recommended, but no it is not required. In fact, the Radian without a tether performs almost as good as a seat with a tether. That's why it's recommended on here alot for spots without anchors and for younger FFers. Installing with a lap/shoulder belt will help as the shoulder portion does act like a top tether in some regards

I plan to put mine in a place that is not top tethered and as a parent and a tech I am completely ok with that because of the great marks the Radian got for head excursions without a tether.

Also many cars can be retrofitted with them or kiddos swapped around to free up a spot.

ETA: I forgot, if you are in Canada, you must top tether no matter what

Where do you live? Canada requires top tether use for forward-facing seats, but the US does not.

If you're in the US, it's not required, but top tether use is always recommended because it reduces head excursion. Fortunately the Radian does well untethered, so that's a plus.

What kind of vehicle do you have? Are there any tether anchors, or are they in use by other children in car seats? If you let us know about your vehicle and other children, maybe we can help you arrange the seats so that you can use the tethers. If your vehicle does not have any tether anchors, it may be possible to have it retrofitted.

I live in TX.

I drive a full up '99 suburban and it would be a lap belt only install.

I currently have...

Middle row
driver - 2 year old in ff marathon
center - 11 month old in rf keyfit
fold down - 11 year old ds

3rd row
driver - 7 year old in turbo booster
center - 9 year old ds
passenger - 4 year old in parkway booster

I'm thinking I'll put the 2 year old in the middle rear in the radian and move my 4 year old where the 2 year old is now to get my 9 year old out of the lap belt only. Having him in a lap belt has been driving me nuts since the baby was born and I finally thought of a way to fix it.

Sounds like a good plan. If I couldn't get a retrofit anchor (most GM's actually have the ability to have one added, but it can be tough to find a dealer who knows diddly about it), the Radian is the seat I'd want to use as long as the install is good
