What can I show him?

My brother thinks it's ridiculous that carseats, especially bases, expire. He took an expired Snugride base that Id been meaning to throw away from my parents house and is using it as a spare for another vehicle. He just doesnt believe it is unsafe just cuz it's a little older. R there any stats, crash tests, videos, anything I can show him to get the fact across? I explained that plastic degrades, weakens over time. But he just rolled his eyes.

Update: Well the good news is there was a miscommunication. My mom did throw out the expired base, so wut my bro was trying to say was that he took a base from OUR grandma's house, not 'Grandma' as in our mom. That base was my aunt's and it's not expired. But he still wouldn't care if it were expired. :(

If the link doesn't work, you can go to Youtube and put in "car seat expiration" in the search. That video is convincing enough!

I fixed the link in the earlier post. It was truncated somehow because it's so long when it was copied. Now it should work. :)

Ok, Ive seen that one before. But I doubt it will convince my brother that the base isnt still perfectly fine. Is there anywhere online where a manufacturer talks about how they come up w/ their expiration dates, and why they R important? Or maybe any cases of a child's infant carrier being ejected form the base that was expired?

Hope it works out, but he sounds like the type who's not gonna be convinced no matter what evidence you have.

THe Britax video works for bases too. The idea is that plastics degrade. So, any part that holds the child and/or seat together can fail. That includes the base. He just doesn't believe in stuff failing so if that video doesn't convince him, I dunno if anything will.

Good news that the base he's using isn't expired.
