Question Top Tether anchors

Both my husband's and my cars are 1999's with no top tether anchors. How can we get these parts? I've heard they are a fairly easy DIY. Do these have to be car specific or is there a generic version we can get and install?

The cars are a 1999 Olds Cutlass and a 1999 Ford Contour if that helps. Thanks!

Hopefully a tech will come along shortly - but in a '99, it should be fairly easy to do it yourself, but you will have to order the part from a dealer. I don't know the rules with Dodge - it seems I remember GM dealers will put one tether anchor in free of charge. After that you will be charged for the part and labor. For example, I have a Honda, and Honda doesn't do any free of charge, they wanted $45+ to put in one tether anchor. Took us $6 to buy the part, and a half hour to put it in. And it only took that long b/c I have a 2 door coupe and its thoroughly difficult to get into the back window, took some odd arm maneuvering. lol But it is an easy fix and inexpensive to get the part. Call your local dealer and tell them you need a tether anchor for your car seat.

GM will retrofit one TA free of charge in the Olds. Refer to Technical Service Bulletin 99-09-40-004a. GM does not publish their part numbers.

Ford will also retrofit free of charge, though I don't believe you are limited to one. Refer to program R7C. The part number is F5RZ 54613D74-A for all three positions.
