Question Recaro Start or LATCH/ISOFIX

I predict we'll be moving to a high back booster sometime in the next 12 months. I really have no issue paying for the Recaro Start...it looks fantastic. It's not ISOFIX compatible, however, and I've been hearing lately that this provides some extra stability. So what exactly is its advantage over a seat such as the Recaro Seatfix (which is less expensive - but that's not really my focus)?

Thanks!

With boosters that can be LATCH in you don't have to buckle the booster in when not in use. If the booster is not a LATCH you need to buckle the belt b/c otherwise it is a projectile item.

The Start has a top tether that secures in into the seat. It's a solid seat and when top tethered, it's definately solid. Plus they have roller type things for the shoulder area that has an option to "lock" the child in.

I own a start and love it. It's fairly heavy, but I think it's great. Lots of side impact protection and everything adjusts.

Have have owned a Jane Indy that had the isofix/latch on it. I liked that one also, but felt that the Start provided more side protection.

Thanks - unfortunately we don't have a top tether anchorage point and our manufacturer will not return calls email about retrofitting (the level of customer service I've come to expect in Ireland, I'm afraid).

Is the stability from latch so great that it overrides the other benefits of the Start?

I can't imagine why they don't put latch on all high back boosters - it's not as though they would be bearing the full force of a crash!

So you DO have lower anchors but no top anchors? In that case I'd get a seat with lower anchor attachments and skip the Start. They do sell a European version that has no anchors of any kind, but I personally only feel comfortable using our Starts top anchored, because they are heavy and the crash tests I've seen of them seem like the heaviness of the seat might load onto the child in a crash.
More and more seats are getting lower anchorages, but since it was invented for installing harnessed seats, it's been a while catching on that it's a good idea for boosters (which overall perform very well even when not attached at all).

Hi Jools -

Yes - just lower anchors. We live in Ireland, so the only version of the Start I've ever seen is the one without ISOFIX/LATCH. Recaro also do an ISOFIX booster, but the side impact doesn't look as good and I'm not sure if it has the same anti-submarining features of the Start.
