Replacing seatbelts after a crash

Does anyone have links from respected organizations about the need to replace seatbelts after a crash? I'm looking for info on how severe the crash needs to be, how you know they need to be replaced, how to get them replaced, etc.

For the record, I don't need convincing. I just need solid info :)

Thanks!

Gosh, it's got to be out there somewhere but I'm not finding it. Scary, because every paramedic/firefighter I've ever talked to about crashes emphasises it.

There was something about it in my training manual when I was first certified, but I don't have it handy to look it up at the moment.

My vehicle manual says the belts should be tested after a crash and replaced if they fail the tests. It also says they should be replaced every 10 years. (We haven't though.)

My BIL owned an auto body shop and he said there was a computer checklist for every car he got in, and it included inspecting the belts, replacing if necessary (I know some have rip-stitching in them that show a label to replace, and of course anything with a pre-tensioner needs to be replaced...it's a one use explosive device like your airbag has).

Yep. The links above also say that a cut as small as 5 mm can significantly reduce the effectiveness of the belt, and that with age or after a crash the webbing will not stretch the way it is supposed to.
