I'm sure this has been asked before, but forgive me for asking again...
My friend's MIL wants to buy a booster seat that is "safe but not too expensive". I would like to know the current way of things as far as boosters go. Cost is a strong consideration but not the main determinant. Friend is considering giving g'ma an AO to use as a booster (occasional use) and get g'ma to buy a new seat for her car instead. He rides in a Radian in friend's car and a AO in other g'ma's car, where he rides more often.
The child is just turning 4 though he tends to sit well in the car, I believe. He is over 40 lbs and of solid build (likely needs a seat with shoulder room, esp for the future), probably over 38 inches? I am totally guessing based on how close he was in height to my own son a couple of months ago. Little brother (2.5 yo) is small for his age and will probably fit in the AOs she has for quite a long time yet.
What are her best options? I know the Monterey and Turbobooster get mentioned, and maybe a Compass booster, but don't remember the particulars. Ideally, I am sure she would like a HWH seat like the Nauti or Frontier or Apex (though she chose the Radian over the Apex due to the worry over headrests and having to remember that) but I don't know if the cost will be prohibitive. Any others? How do all these stack up? Are there any decent boosters less than the turbobooster, or is that the best low-cost option?
Thanks!
