Although we do our best to maintain the accuracy of this information, some details of these listings, such as current and valid technician status, have not been verified by representatives of Car-seat.org. No current national database listing of technicians in Canada currently exists to verify such information.

Some of us are volunteers; some charge. You'll need to check with the individual tech you meet with.

As with many professional services, the occupant protection professionals who are listed on this forum are independent consultants and thus determine their own fees. Costs in some areas may be higher than in others...eg. Here in Vancouver, the CRST course is $450-$500, fuel costs are 1.44/l, and materials costs are often higher. A technician in Vancouver may opt to charge more than a technician in a lower cost area, for these reasons. Some technicians do checks for free, and many happily accept a Tim Horton's card here and there. This is something you can negotiate with the individual technician you contact.

Rest assured that I don't know of a single technician who would refuse to provide services to someone in genuine need and without financial means. The industry isn't mandated like notary publics (who are limited in what they can charge, depending on circumstances) but technicians do have best practice guidelines as far as documentation goes...but as far as professional fields go, it's probably one of the best comparisons to be made with regards to fees and function.

Nicole, not a big deal, but pixelated is on the list twice... #1 and #3 right at the top of the list. Not sure which one is newer, they list slightly different areas.

Nope--this list isn't an official/verified list, but if you expire or fail to update us with a copy of your new certificate, you'll lose your tech group membership because we do keep a record of that elsewhere.
