Really dislike the Scenera - new RF suggestion for 2+yrs (another ? in #8)

I'll try and keep this short and sweet. DD is still RF. We used the Scenera in DH's old truck & then it died so we got an older van. We moved DD's Marathon from the Explorer I was driving into the van and put the Scenera into the Explorer for DH to drive. Well not only have I not been able to get a decent install of that Scenera in the Explorer (it always tips to the side even with a noodle and belt lock off:mad:), DD complains that her back hurts every time she has to ride in it. It even leaves like a pressure red mark on her spine. When we first got the van, we temporarily had the Scenera in there until I could get her Marathan moved over. When we finally were able to move the Marathon, DD was sooooooo excited. She said "Oh Mama, my seat!!!!" and climbed right in.:p

DD just turned 2 the beginning of November. She weighs 32.4lbs according to the Dr's scale and her full height is 35.5". I haven't checked the 1" rule on the Scenera yet because we try not to use it if we don't have to. She's pushing the RF limit of her Marathon (which is the older 33lbs) but we're going on a road trip next week and want to leave her RF until we get home.

So, (thanks for reading this far by the way), we want to get DD a new carseat to replace the Scenera. We obviously need something with some good back padding so she's not getting sore. We also can't spend $200 on a seat right now. Sadly, I don't have the time to read through the site for suggestions as I'm typing this from work :)o). If you could give me suggestions maybe even with links that would be very helpful.

Thanks ladies!

How much can you spend? Do you want a convertible seat or a ff only seat?

We'd like to try & keep it under $150. I have mixed feelings about the kind of seat. While I want to keep her RF as long as possible, we already need to turn her Marathon. So I don't know. I guess I'll take suggestions for either one.:shrug-shoulders:

Since she's essentially at the rear facing limit of her Marathon (I wouldn't be comfortable continuing to rear face in that seat esp. considering her weight was probably done with shoes off), I would use the Marathon forward facing in your DH's car, and spend 65-80 dollars and buy a Safety First Avenue or Uptown to rear face in your car.

Lots of comfortable padding AND eps foam for a reasonable price

I second the Uptown/Avenue. We just got a Uptown, it is very well padded, rear faces to 35 lbs, and is comparable in height to the Marathon. They are discontinued, but you could get an Avenue, which is essentially the same seat. It also has EPP foam. They are about $80.

If you plan on having her ff, I'd get the Nautilus. It is right at your budget. FF only combination seat. Very tall top harness slots, 65 lb weight limit. Converts to a good booster.

Thanks. I'll check into the Uptown/Avenue and the Nautilus:thumbsup:

I'm just curious, if price were no object what seat would you suggest then? (Might be able to convince Grandma to help out:))

If price were no object I would buy a Compass Tru Fit (about 180). Another 2 pounds of rear facing and is soooo big and comfy that it fits even older rearfacers well.

Now if price reaaaaaaaaaalllly weren't an object, and you didn't mind violating a federal law, I'd import a swedish seat :D

Except for the swedish seat part, I totally love the tru fit. And the girl colors are just GORGEOUS. That monet is very sweet, and (it's not a girl color, I know) the misty morning is very nice.

Are you going to have more? If so I would go ahead and get a convetible that goes to 35 lbs so you can keep this one rear-facing longer and future babies too.

I would get a triumpth advance, uptown, or true fit and put it rear-facing in the car she is in most and put the marathon forward facing in the second car.

For $105 for a triumpth advanced I would say it over the uptown since you would get 10 more lbs forward facing.
Good Luck!

We switched DS (in secondary car) from a Scenera to a Radian and I was SOOOOO impressed at the extra leg room for RF! It will RF to 35 lbs.

We got our True Fit from www.learningcurve.com for $150 and free shipping. I used the code SDN25 or you can use LCFRIEND (if you make an account first). As far as I know the codes still work, you will have to check. It is an awesome seat! My 30 lbs 3 year old is RFing in it, and my 38 lb 4 yr old is FFing in one too (we have Monet).

In case it matters to anyone, after looking into the different seats and seeing the True Fit, I couldn't resist. Borrowed a little $ from Grandma and we're ordering the Casino True Fit. It should be here before we leave on our trip next week:thumbsup: So DD will be RF in my van in the TF and FF in DH's Explorer in the MA. Thanks for all your help & suggestions!!
