Recaro questions/was Re: Recaro Signo: Initial Review & Measurements

Hi there, I'm new here and see that some post are older. What is a belly pad? I'm thinking about this recaro car seat for my daughter whom I'd like to keep RF till near 3. And it seems to look like it covers all areas of safty and comfort? Help me if there is any thing I shound know. I'm not one to have 3-4 carseat one is plenty enough..this is my 3rd baby and I've looked at the raident 80(reviews) and the safegaurd(reviews) however they seem like great seats as well but dont look so comfy RFing...the safegaured is only FF though so It wont work unless I buy one that she will outgrow at 40lbs or untill I decide to ff her...but I'd like to avoid buying 3 carseats. What is the comparision of the recaro to the britix? I just though that this seat wasn't that popular because I remember seeing it when I had my first baby but was well out of my price range at a mear $399-499. They have come down to more compareable pricing. Thanks for your time. lesliebbg (mother of 2 boys and 1 girl)

Re: Recaro questions/was Re: Recaro Signo: Initial Review & Measurements

The Recaro Signo and Como convertibles were never priced quite as high as $400+. That's more the MSRP range of the Safeguard child seat . The Recaro convertibles are in the $249-289 range at full price. Albeebaby.com has been selling some Signos and Comos for less than full price recently, with Signos for $215-full price, depending on the cover, and Comos for $150.

The belly pad is a small, round comfort pad that is routed onto the lower buckle in between the child's lap/tummy and the buckle. The Signo and Como have taller top shoulder harness slots by approx. an inch or so over the Britax Marathon/Blvd./Decathlon convertibles. If you're considering a Recaro convertible or Britax convertible for use from birth, though, the lowest shoulder harness position in the Recaros and the Britax convertibles are about the same, and too high for most newborns. The shoulder harness straps should be at or below a rear facing baby's shoulders for proper positioning and usage. Examples of convertible seats with lower sets of bottom shoulder harness slots that could be more suitable for a newborn would be the Sunshine Kids Radian models, or the Evenflo Triumph Advance. I believe the bottom set of shoulder harness slots on the First Years/Learning Curve True Fit convertible are also fairly low, but others who are more experienced with the True Fit could ideally chime in to confirm that.
    Regards,
    Jean

How old is your daughter, how much does she weigh and what vehicle will the car seat be installed in?

My daughter is 13 months. We ride in a Nissan Armada 05' or a Ford Expidition '08. I just remember those seats(recaro) back in 1999-2000 being very expensive. It may have been the all leather one. It was featured in FIRST YEARS cataloge. Thanks
