I can't believe my ears!

I called one of our local hospitals to get some help checking out the install of my infant seat. I let her know that I just wanted to make sure that I had it in correct. I'm concerned about getting the correct incline and making sure it's secure and I'm having trouble. She first asked me if it was more than a inch and of course it is so then told me I may need a new seat. Well my seat can go without the base not a must have to come home from the hospital. So I told her that and that if we must I can move dd to a Radian Rfing and put baby in Blvd to come home in. She then asked me how old dd was and I said a little over 2 and she said well she can go ffing in a harnessed booster! Yes she can but why would I do that when I have a Radian that is going to last her until she is ready for a HBB or LBB. I just told her I prefer to do extended Rfing. She did agree that it was best and said that most people around our area just prefer to turn them as soon as they can. I was just shocked that she recommended that I turn my 2 year old that is way below the limits of her seat ffing.

 No wonder most people in the area prefer to turn them as soon as possible...she's telling them to!

For what it's worth, I'd rather bring a baby home in a Radian than a BLVD... But yeah, that's bad advice.

Putting the baby in the Radian would work also. But the only thing is I don't have the infant inserts for it.

Even without the inserts, the Radian is a better fit for newborns - you can place rolled receiving blankets on both sides to help "cradle" baby *after* baby is buckled in the harness.

To be fair, I would fall out of my chair if I had someone call me for an appointment hand have even heard of ERF, much less be insistent upon it. Most techs I have experience with in the real world (as opposed to all the super awesome techs on here ) go by the minimums and aren't really aware or comfortable with ERF or EH. She definitely needs a refresher on best practice though

I guess I will see what they say. If they throw a big fit about the seat than we can always do that. I will just bring extra blankets to put around her in the radian.

Really, try the Radian first. The Blvd will not work for MOST babies.

Yes, the shoulder slots are a full inch lower on the Radian, and it just plain fits newborns better, even without the cushions.

The Radian cushions don't go under the baby anyway, so they wouldn't make a difference in strap height. The only thing would be extra room in the seat by the hips and torso, which is very easily remedied with a rolled rec'ing blanket.

The Radian cushion does go under the baby. But, it just cradles their sides and supports the head, it doesn't change strap height. The back is very thin, like the thickness of a t-shirt.

No, I mean under the bum. It goes behind then, but not under their bottom.

Thas nothing compared to our pedi telling me I could turn DD1 to FF after she turned 1, since she was 20lbs. I said we'd leave her RF for a while still (to seat limit) and she said "Even better. Just makin sure U know U can turn her whenever U want now" UH, I just said when I wanted to, and if U know RF is 'even better', Y tell parents they can turn?? And Im pretty sure most parents who know anything about & practice extended RF also know the legal minimum for turning FF :p

I did have a parent ask me if DS (6) could just sit on a throw pillow because a booster wouldn't fit in the middle of her 3 across.
