Question International Travel

I will be traveling from the U.S. to South Africa with a 9-month old. We are currently using a rear-facing Graco Snugride w/ a base. I would appreciate any advice on whether it would be best/safest for us to try to bring the base and car seat with us, just bring the car seat and instal without the base, or for us to switch to a forward facing car seat that doesn't need a base (our daughter is only 15 pounds so I'm not sure if she can fit into a bigger seat).

Thanks in advance for any help!

If she still fits, learning to install the infant seat w/o the base is probably easiest. Make sure you practice w/ a locking clip as many vehicles overseas don't have locking seat belts.

If she's getting close to outgrowing the seat, I would NOT get a FF seat. I would recommend a seat like the Cosco Scenera or Safety 1st Avenue that is small, light-weight, and relatively cheap. Both of these seats can be installed RF, which is what your DD needs at this point. Children should be RF as long as possible; 1 year and 20 lb is the bare minimum, and your DD isn't even there yet.

Thanks for the advice. Is a locking clip something that I would need to buy before I leave?

When you buy a convertible seat a locking clip and instructions on when and how to use it will come with the seat.
