I am taking the girls to see their grandparents in Connecticut this weekend. Since my husband will be out of town due to work, he has arranged for a limo to pick us up and take us to and from the airport. I'm not too sure where to place everyone. I also don't know what kind of seatbelts will be available. It will be the four of us. All I really know is it is a 6 passenger limo.

Me
Jess - six years old, Britax Marathon
Katie - 4, Britax Marathon
Abbey , just turned 3, Sunshine Radian

Any suggestions.

I don't think there are lap/shoulder belts in each seating position. I think there may be only two.

I would call the limo company and ask them. Maybe change to another luxury car? But all of those seats install with lap belts only also. You would just have to make sure you and the driver have lap/shoulder belts.

I've been in two limos:

Hummer: it only had seat belts for 2.

"Regular" Limo had seat belts for 3.

Also, both had only one forward facing seat. The rest are side or rear facing - can't use a CR anyway.

If you are limited to 2 positions, go with the smallest/youngest in their CR and have the oldest ride w/o. (This is the best practice for having to put a child in the front seat of a vehicle as well - biggest/oldest rides in front.)

Well, IMO, if there is not enough seat belts for everyone, the best bet would be to take another vehicle. I would never comprise one of my children's safety.

Your carseats are only designed and crash tested for installation in forward facing vehicle seats, not side facing or rear facing vehicle seats. You need to find out from the limo company if there are three seating positions facing the front in the limo for installing your carseats. Also, lap only seatbelts are not safe for anyone riding in just the seatbelt or in a booster seat, but they're fine for installing a harnessed carseat. Hopefully the limo has at least three forward facing vehicle seats for your carseats and at least one more passenger seating position with a shoulder belt.

I'm thinking limos are like taxis and buses - they don't have to have seat belts in all seating positions.

What you really want is someone to provide a driver and a mini van or SUV rather than a limo. What about asking a friend to drive YOUR car? Then you don't have to reinstall the seats for the airport run.

The few limos I have been in have only had one forward facing seat with 2 lap/shoulder harnesses. The other seats were either side or rear facing with lap only belts. The limo company will be able to tell you the configuration. They may also be able to supply you with carseats so you don't have to lug around three of them by yourself.
