Truefit or Nautilus help me decide please

I would like to purchase a new car seat for my four year old dd. We have the evenflo generations and I am so tired of the knob adjusters that I thought I would love when we purchased it. I am torn between the truefit and the nautilus that just became availble to order.

Can anyone give me some good or bad points about these two seats? I realize that they both meet the standards but what else should I consider?
I like that truefit because of easy adjustment of harness height and easy off pad for cleaning and the girly cover doesn't hurt. I like that the nautilus has a steel frame and the wings for the head look like she could sleep well in it. It also seems to be a little higher at the back because she is tall and slim. She is approaching 40lbs so I have to decide soon.

I have only seen the truefit and tried her in it but I thought that it would have been higher at the back. We don't physically have a nautilus in our stores yet to try her in so I wonder if it really is higher or just appears that way.

I also have a dd that is almost 3 and in britax roundabout. She is approaching 30lbs so I have to consider what to do when she reaches 40lbs, do I give her the generations or buy another seat or move my older dd to a booster only and give her the nautilus/truefit? Too many decisions!!

Also, where is the best place to purchase the seats if I want to try to get a girly cover and/or a good price?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi and welcome :)

For your older dd I'd wait and get the Nautilus as opposed to the TrueFit. She doesn't need the rear facing capabilities of the TrueFit, and having the Nautilus that later converts to a good highback and backless booster just makes the most sense. The Generations she's in now allows for harnessed use up to 47lbs or until her shoulders are level with the top harness slots, whichever comes first. Providing her shoulders are still under the top slots you can continue to use the harness up to 47lbs. Converting the seat to booster mode is an option at 40lbs, but not req'd. This means you will most likely have time to wait for the Nautilus.

In terms of your 3y/o, where are her shoulders in relation to the top harness slots of her Roundabout. The Roundabout is outgrown when 1 of the following things happens:

-Her shoulders are level with the top harness slots

OR

-She reaches 40lbs

OR

-The tips of her ears are level with the top of the seat shell.

Whichever comes first.

Most kids' shoulders reach the top harness slots of the Roundabout by age 3 or so, so it's important you check.

She may need a new seat sooner than you think. If so, you could get her a Nautilus as well.

In terms of colour choice, we'll be really restricted I'm guessing. I don't think we'll be getting the Mariposa pattern this year. Probably one of the grey/black patterns is what we'll see. If you want to, you can have the cover embroidered with something girly, or you may be able to call Graco and order the Mariposa cover separately ($50+ I'm guessing).

Hope that helps,
