I read in yesterdays local paper that the funding for a Safe Kids chapter in an adjacent county will be eliminated next year. It is funded by a childrens hospital and they say they can only fund our county starting next year. This is so sad. The local Safe Kids around here do so much and this would be a great loss. Hopefully someone will step forward and provide funding but we all know how things are. The bad economy hurts funding for these programs but at the same time the bad economy makes it harder for people to buy new car seats for their kids. I got so upset reading about this, just knowing if they don't find alternate funding there will be many more kids riding around improperly restrained. They do like 65 checks a year the article said, and there will be none if no one steps forward with funding.
