How/Why NOT to put a newborn in a MA...pic heavy

My friend has a 2week-2 day old baby who was sitting in this seat a few days ago (Last Saturday, at the age of 10 days). Baby was 7lbs 12oz at birth, down as low as 7lbs 3oz. I have full permission to post pics :D

A rear adjust SR...I had never seen one of them...do they all have a belly buckle on a newborn?

My MCP, on the lowest harness slot :D

I'll add more pictures of 3 across, 4 RF seats in my car (2 ERF...2+ y/os, weighing 24 and 29lbs, and 2 RFs...ages 16mos (only 18lbs) and 2 weeks), 4 Regents (3 LBP, 1 SBP), kids ages 7, 6, 4.5, and 3 (4 in Dec).

Pictures of the whole crew in seats. The newborn in the MCP does not have aftermarket strap covers or anything like that, that is the polo-style collar on his romper that we pulled through the harness to alleviate the straps on his neck. The strap covers that came with the seat were too big for that little guy!

The 4th RF seat is in the back, next to the 2 Regents. You can see her feet in one of the pictures. She's 2y2mo and weighs 29lbs.

The SR is from 2003.

Yes, I can fit 3 Regents across that back seat :D There are some pics around here somewhere (might be in the community chat section) of 3 across Regents. I could probably find one....I'll see if I can find one and add it.

Here ya go!

Just for good measure, there's 3 across with WZ/BLVD/BLVD RF there on the "short" 3-seat bench.

Awsome pictures! Thanks for sharing! My SIL had that snugride for my niece. She hated the rear adjuster!

You are correct, it is a Sprinter :D

So, do all rear-adjust SR basically have a belly buckle (as opposed to a crotch buckle) on newborns like that? My friend was not comfy with the buckle that high on him....he's riding in my MCP, and my dd4 is riding in her MA.

My youngest could have come home in a MA. She was a full inch over the bottom slots on her Radian...

I hate the belly buckle on the SR, and yes, they all do that.

I do prefer the rear-adjust to front-adjust SR; I am never able to get the front-adjust tight enough on newborns. My mom agrees.

Yep, that's fine. It's just the way the crotch strap fits on the snugride until baby is a little bigger. I don't believe there's actually a difference between front adjust and rear adjust - just depends on the size of the baby... my ds came home in a front adjust snugride at just barely over 5lbs and the buckle was up on his tummy too. I don't think quite as far, but my ds also had a long torso even at birth...

If the buckle is far enough forward of the crotch that baby's bum is sliding forward, it's ok to take a small washcloth and roll it up, then place it between babies crotch and the buckle. As long as the harness can be tightened appropriately though, and baby isn't sliding forward, there's no need to do that and there's no safety issue.

Even my 10-inch-torsoed newborn had a belly buckle in the SnugRide. I hated it and so did she. (It was our backup for her. We only used it once; the next time I took her in a different car I put her in the Uptown instead, so much better! I really think I just hate infant buckets, prefer convertibles, lol.)

I'm jealous of your van! This wile I try to fit 3 across my back row and having to send AJ back to a RN instead of GN, ugh.

That's how Ilana looked in the MA, she was down to 6#7oz, she didn't get even w/ the bottom slots till she was 10 mos old! Yup, all my kids came home w/ belly buckles like that, it's the major thing I don't like my about Graco, but I wouldn't give up my SS1 I had for Ilana for anything I don't think.

I'm in love with your sprinter!!

what are the ages of your kids?? (in some of the pics, it looks almost like you've got sets of twins and only one or two singletons)
