Update on NHTSA's Nautilus Ease of Use Issue

I emailed NHTSA after reading in their ease of use ratings that the seat was tough to convert to rear facing mode from other modes.

I received the following email today. I'm still not sure I agree, though. The seat comes in ff mode. I would assume they mean when converting to booster mode? It's almost as if they have no clue what the seat is. Anyway, here is the email I received today.

Thank you very much for your contact regarding the Graco Nautilus error on our Ease of Use website. We use a number of standardized comments in an effort to keep the comments sections across child safety seats as comparable as possible. In preparing the data set for the web, the incorrect comment was inserted. As you’ve pointed out, the comment should read, “Multiple actions are required to convert the seat to the forward-facing mode from other modes; these must be carefully followed in the manual.”

I understand the critical nature of an error of this type, especially since Graco markets the Nautilus as a “3-in-1” seat, which could unintentionally suggest that it may be used rear-facing when it may not. I was made aware of the problem on Monday afternoon and made the correction to the file immediately. Unfortunately, I do not have access to upload the file to the website myself, but it’s been marked extremely urgent and is now in the web team’s queue to be uploaded.

Thanks again for your vigilance. If you have any other comments or questions regarding the Ease of Use program, please don’t hesitate to contact me!
