Question Pictures of Bottom of Nautlius

She can use a thin towel in between the seat and the child restraint if necessary. It's rare that carseats ruin vehicle seats.

If she doesn't like the Nautilus check out the Britax Frontier.

Would the Radian have a smaller footprint? :scratcheshead: The bottom is pretty smooth from what I can remember when I had mine.

I believe the manual for the GN even suggests using a thin towel under because it can damage the vehicle seat.

I suggested the towel to her, but she said it wouldn't help after seeing our Tahoe with leather seats after I took my FPSVD's out (it is just a car). She is more concerned about the indentations in the seat. I will have to check the Radian too. I am getting ready to purchase 2 because I have to fit 3 across in my car soon. I don't think she would spend that much on a car seat, but we shall see.

I would just flat out ask them "would you like indented seats for a small amount of time, or a child that is dead or paralized from not using the car seat correctly?" Seriously!!!! I have a new car and leather seats, yeah all of my car seats, no matter the brand, have indented my leather, but the dents come out after the car seat has been uninstalled for a couple weeks.
Ugh why are people so naive??

Have you showed her your Tahoe after a day or two with the FPSVD out? I just got rid of my '05 Tahoe that had MA in it from '05 until earlier this year (replaced with Regents) and I could remove the MA's and within a day or two the indents were almost completely gone. The GN is not nearly as hard on the seats as the MA's due to it not having the small base and a more rounded foot print. We have a GN in dh truck for dd#2.

I think another thing to keep in mind is that many of us on here tighten our seats more than they need to be. I know I can get my Marathon VERY tight. While it passes the 1" rule at a certain point, if I can get it tighter I feel the need to make it tighter. I really don't think the Nautilus should cause any problems.

do you still need pics? I can take some for you today since our new Nautilus is airing out in a spare bedroom...

As for your SIL, I would offer to relieve her of the child/ren, period. But I'm mean :soapbox: seriously if she's more concerned about her car's leather seats than her child's safety, what other abysmal parenting choices will she make? What'll she do when that same child spills something in the backseat, or takes a crayon to it, or one of the millions of things that only a child can think of to do?

...I have talked my SIL into keep her son (3) in a harness, but she is worried about the leather seats in her vehicle....She has a FPSVD but will not use it in her new vehicle. There is no amount of talking that will change her mind. And my brother is worse. He would rather just not use a car seat....

Uh, so what's she going for here, a blood stain to ruin the leather? (With child not in seat, bad accident.)

How about using shelf liner beneath the seat? It cushions the edges. We have leather seats and the shelf liner seems to work pretty well. Leather does have some memory and can "spring" back after a few days once the seat's removed.

I would still love to see pictures, if it isn't too much to ask.

I have showed them all of the links I can and talked to them till I am blue in the face. My brother actually had him in a hbb when he wasn't even 18 mothns old. I think he actually used it twice before I found out. I was really hard on him and he did quit using it after that. That is when I gave them the 5pt harness booster that is expired. He gives me a hard time everytime he sees my dd in her FPSVD RF. She is about 30 lbs, and he is always telling her to tell me that she wants to sit FF. She really doesn't care, though.

I too imagine that I over tighten my seats, because I keep tightening them until I can't budge them. But why stop when I can do more?

I like the idea of the shelf liner. I will have to try that myself and suggest it to her. I think most people think I am crazy, but some at least concider what I have to say. :)

If she wants the ultimate in smoothness, convince her to get a Regent. Not only will the leather be fine, but her kid will be harnessed for a loooong time.

Thanks for the pictures! It doesn't look like it would do too much damage, at least not as much as my FPSVD. There doesn't seem to be many sharp corners.

I think I will recommend a trip to BRU or something simular to look at this and the Regent. And I will show her the Radian's when I get around to ordering mine.

Thanks to all!! I appreciate your advice and time. :)

I wouldn't recommend the radian unless you trust that she will take the time to install it properly. At some point it will need to be installed with the seatbelt and that can be a huge pain. Most parents aren't interested it taking that kind of time to make sure their seat is installed properly, so it ends up being installed incorrectly.
