Question Built in car seats

Hi
My MIL bought a 2007 Dodge Caravan with the built in car seats to drive my child around in occassionally. Are they safe? We have Britax seats that we have always installed in other cars as needed, but it would be more coveneint if we could use hers (and this would be occassionally, not every day). I'd really appreiciate a response-- I hope this post works.

They are safe as in they pass federal safety standards. However, they lack a lot of side impact protection (5 point harnesses still over SOME side impact protection so there is some), they can be hard to adjust and may not fit some children well. They also of course are forward facing only and we advocate rear facing for quite a while here, meaning you won't get tons of use out of them.

The other problem is the "what if" factor. If the car was to break down or you had to go in someone else's car you wouldn't have a seat to bring with.

However, in a pinch, if it's a very rare thing like with grandparents, and the child is the correct age, weight, and height they are fine to use. Just not very convienent. I know some here have used them in the past.

How old and heavy are your kids? For older kids they're ok. Not great, but ok. For younger kids I wouldn't use them.
