car seats + winter coats

I know carseats and coats don't mix. So what are my options. What does everyone else do. We live in kansas so in the winter a coat is not optional.

Also I am probably going to need to look like I know what I'm talking about to convince my husband on this. I will also hear it from the inlaws so if there is any info please pass it my way!

We live in NE and use the 3 or 4-in-1 coats that have the fleece inner jacket that zips out of the heavier part. That way they can wear fleece in the car and around town and can wear the heavier part for outside. Wal-Mart has some in the toddler section for $25 right now, not sure about bigger ones.

We are in Canada and have horrible winter weather and I put the girls in shirts, sweaters, mitts and hats and jackets to the car. We take the jackets off, buckle them up and put the jackets back on backwards. Keeps them warm and if it gets too warm than they can take them off. When we get where we are going they take the jackets off and I lean back to unbuckle them, by the time I get around the car to let them out they have their jackets back on so all I have to do is zip them up as they come out of the car.

We have nice cold Wisconsin winters :) I just do a fleece jacket. The kids are fine. We have an extra blanket to throw over them if need be, but I try to warm the car up first.

thats really neat! cant afford something like that right now though.

You can make your own. It is really easy. I've made several and I do not know how to sew. You can get two different yards of fleece out of the walmart bargain bin for $4-5 a piece. Fleece does not unravel, so it is super easy to deal with.
