True Fit Tether

So, the True Fit tether isn't long enough to tether in the center of a a Ford Explorer. The response I got "does it have to be tethered?"

GAH.

I am not pleased.

The woman I nanny for. Apparently the "if you choose to FF him you really need to tether his seat" conversation was highly effective.

Call and see if there's a fix for it? I think it was Evenflo that has an extender fix for their too-short tethers? Maybe they have one for the TF too and if not, it will alert them to the problem and maybe they'll come up with one.

Absolutely call Learning Curve/The First Years. If they haven't had complaints yet, don't be surprised if there's no fix, but be sure to let them know you are a tech, and it is unacceptable to both the parent and you to not tether their forward-facing seat, and urge them to come up with a solution.

Add to that, that the seat is sold in Canada where it is illegal to not have a seat tethered FF. So, they really do need to come up with a solution fast.

The engineer is telling me that the TF tether is the same length as ever other tether on the market. Could I have gotten one that was miscut :scratcheshead:

I did a seatcheck with a TF in a '99 Venture the other day... the top tether was just *barely* long enough to reach the anchors (captain's chairs tether to the 3rd row outboard seatbelt stalk). The captain's chair had to be moved back to it's farthest position (it slides fore/aft) and I really stretched to get the tether hooked on properly.

Pretty sure it's not your seat and just a short top tether... they're too used to the new vehicles that have anchors on the back of the seat or the back of the dash (ie. 2 - 6 inches away).

She called back. The engineer is taking a TF home tonight so he can stop and try it out in an Explorer. That's what I call active customer service

Wow! I am really impressed. I was very happy by how promptly they handled the labeling problem on the CDN seats too. It certainly gives confidence when a company is responsive. :)
