Ugh, DS rode in lapbelt only today

My oldest DS (10) spent the night at a friend's house last night and called this morning to ask if he could go to church with them. I said OK, knowing they have a grand cherokee, thinking that would be okay. When he got back I asked him if he buckled up like a good boy and he said yeah. I said you didn't put the shoulder belt behind your back did you and he said he couldn't because there wasn't one:eek:!!! He said his friend (13) put his behind his back though. I guess they took old pickup with sort of double cab. I'm not happy about this and told DH he won't be going anywhere with them anymore. DS doesn't know he won't be riding with them but I'll wait to tell him until a situation arises. I'm not gonna ask them to put one of their kids (10 and 13)in a lap belt so mine can have a shoulder belt.
This is also worriesome because they have a 3 1/2 old month premiee finally coming home from the hospital this week and I'm worried about car seat safety with this baby cause I know first hand how much things have changed since my first was a baby. I'm debating the best way to get info to these people without making problems in my son's friendship.

My 6 year old was driven home today by our neighbor after a playdate (obviously walking distance) ... without a booster & in a lap only belt  Just for clarification: boosters cannot be used with lap only belt.

I shared the GM booster video with my kiddo & will be sharing the following link with our friends > http://www.cpsafety.com/articles/lapbelts.aspx

You might also share Sacred Journeys: Safety Seat Basics with your friends and/or the Newborn--Preschool page as well as the IIHS-HLDI video about infants, too. . . .

Hugs! My second also rode in a lap belt last year. He asked if he could go to a park with a friend and we asked if there were any adults going and he said yes. We thought he meant the park right by our house but they drove to the school playground and then to McDonalds. I was SOOOO pissed!

This mom had driven Daniel AND Jacob who is 2 years older in her car before and I always provided boosters for both so I was shocked to learn that she let him ride in a lap belt and without a booster!
