Is this belt positioner safe?

No! It's a pre-crash positioner, and will come flying off in a crash, leaving the child in nothing but an adult seat belt. It's only purpose is to keep the seat belt off the child's neck for comfort, it has nothing to do with safety.

Nope, not safe. If a kid needs a seatbelt positioner, the kid needs a booster or a different seating position.

Keep in mind that Sunshine Kids--while selling a couple great car seats--also sells some horrendous aftermarket products. *cough*mighty-tite*cough*

I'm very curious how SKJP crash tests their aftermarket products. While there aren't any standards for crash testing I wonder if they actually crash test them with dummies and in the case of the mighty tite an actual carseat. Hmmm. I wanna know.

They throw them against the wall and see if they break?

I figured it was just another AMP, but it confused me that it was by Sunshine Kids. I didn't know they also make the mighty tight. :shakes head:

Yes, they crash test their stuff...they are quite proud of it, too www.skjp.com. The problem with the mighty tight is that it states to basically install the seat as directed--and THEN put the MT on. Well, duh, of course it'll meet testing standards (the full on FMVSS 213 standards for carseats) if it's already been properly installed  I'm not precisely sure of what the crash test standards are for a dummy on a test bench, but I doubt this doohicky does much to make the performance any worse. BUT! Dummies don't have instrumentation in their abdomens...could be better or worse than a seatbelt alone, we wouldn't know it from a crash test.
If an adult with fully developed skeleton/hips to hold the belt low on the lap wanted to use this because the car didn't have seatbelt shoulder adjusters, it's probably safe. If a kid needs it? They need a booster.

The biggest issue I see with it is while it solves the seatbelt in the face issue without pulling the lapbelt up, it does nothing to solve the kid slouching down to get their legs to bend properly over the edge of the seat issue. So...I'd say no good :( For an adult though....might not be bad.
