What are the laws on second hand seats?

Ugh...old...and worse? No laws about it. www.carseat.org under 'resources' has the color pictorial guide to just about every seat ever made, and those two brands generally have a 6 year expiration date. Sometimes a gentle email about your concerns about used/old seats is enough to persuade a craigslister to destroy and dispose of the seat properly, so it's worth a try.

Assuming no crashes, etc., the SmartFit might have enough life to be used for one more baby. I have one with a 12/00 DOM, so not all of them are expired. Of course, it was a pain to use and I replaced it with something else for dd2, but not because fo age.

1998 to 2000 i'd say. The smart fit appears to have a Latch belt and is in good condition. The conquest looks very similar to the scout, its also in good condition but has the older style chest clip so i'm going to say a year or two past exp.

Unfortunately there arent any laws about it that i can find. (and i've looked) If you find one PM me b/c i need one! The best thing you can do it email this person and ask the person for the DOM and then explain the dangers. If it were ebay you could report it and hope it gets pulled but i dont use craigslist so i dont know the rules.

We had a Century SmartFit Plus for Hayley that was manufactured in early 2001, I believe. So some of them do have a bit of life left.
