She also apparently had a suspended license or something like that. I'd have no problems finding murder instead of manslaughter in this case. Not Murder 1 obviously, but one of the lesser murder categories. Yes, yes, sad for the family. But I don't see how giving a slap on the wrist is beneficial. Either to the grandma who obviously doesn't care about laws, or the public in general if they see you can kill someone with little to no consequence.

we had an almost identical story in a nearby area a couple years ago. father letting son pretend to drive bumped a curb and airbag deployed killing the toddler. :-( so so sad.

I heard this story on Headline news at about 1pm today. I was yelling at my tv at that Grandma. Sad part is, she maybe has done it befor. I believe a reporter interviewed the other Grandma in the family. She said if the child was in the back he would still be here. Which I would find true in this accident. sad all around when you hear a death of a child with a careless person.

it said she was letting him pretend to drive and her foot slipped onto the gas.

this says a great deal.

1. she was being irresponsible... if she wanted to do this in her driveway, she would have been better to leave the car in park.

2. she forgot an important thing... he could do this with the car OFF, which would have been safer and neither she nor him would have been injured, let alone dead.

and most importantly...

3. set an example!! tell him that he isn't old enough to even pretend to drive with the car on, and always wear your seatbelt!
