LATCH question

OK, I know this question is likely going to horrify some people, and probably everyone will say NO you can't do that!!! but assuming you say no, I was just wondering if you could help with reasons as to why not...

I have a carseat without LATCH (it's not required on Australian seats), that I'm using in a vehicle with LATCH bars. Its a convertible RF, using a lap-sash belt and top tether install.
I also have a seat which has LATCH (Britax Frontier) but used in a car without LATCH bars.

Can I take the LATCH belt from the Frontier and use it on my convertible instead of the belt install?

Love to hear what you've got to say (Other than "are you nuts!!!!")

i'm not a tech but from what i understand the simple answer/explanation is no and b/c it hasnt been tested that way. basicly using your carseat in any way thats different from what the manual makes your kid a crash dummy

:yeahthat: Wouldn't it be either to switch the whole seats in to the different vehicle? Use the seat with latch in the vehicle that has latch and use the seat that doesn't have latch in the vehicle that doesn't have latch.

It is a good question. I am sorry you cannot use the LATCH strap and connectors from your Frontier on a different carseat. It has not been tested with that seat. This would also be considered modifiying you carceat and that is a big no no. Sorry.

OK, thanks guys, I won't do it... but wow, I think LATCH is great from the perspective of getting a tight install on the seat - so much easier than a lap/sash belt. I think it's great that you guys have it on all of your seats!

(Remken - I can't use LATCH with the Frontier regardless of the vehicle because my DS is too heavy so I need to use the seatbelt install - but thanks for the suggestion)
