Yeah I do like the sounds of the soft carrier.
Hockeywoman--wow you sound like me! Yeah I have been thinking about WHEN we would actually need headrests and L/s belts. We buy used with cash as well, so it really limits our options--it's gotta be available and affordable which is why I don't think the sprinter will be our next vehicle, if ever. I'm also afraid to get something that we would outgrow too quickly. I'd hate to ever turn down a foster placement simply because the vehicle would not fit us all, that would stink.
Erin--With five, the suburban is a good choice if it's new enough to have top tether anchors in place (mine needs a retrofit which uses the seat belt from the third row which means you can't use that seat for a carseat, real bummer) The third row can fit three across, and it works as long as you keep the seat flipped down in the second row. It has more cargo space than a minivan and gets very similar gas mileage, sometimes better.
