Good FF seat for low tone

My youngest was just diagnosed with low tone. She has problems sitting up straight and she slouches or lays down while playing.

She is creeping up in weight (now about 28-30 lbs with clothes, full belly and cloth dipe) and we have 33 lb RFing seats.

I know by this time next year she will most likely be too heavy. So I'm trying to look ahead.

Which seats give enough recline and support FFing for kiddos with low tone. I have a Signo already, and I'm figuring that's pretty good, but anything else?

What about a Graco SS 2? Not a great seat but it does recline forward facing. So does the Maxi Cosi Priori. Unfortunately they both only go to 40 lbs :(

I think the signo is the best for low muscle tone because of the way it fits a child & the fact that it has a natural recline ff. I can't think of another seat I would recommend over the signo is this case :)

Actually, I think the Graco SS2 (if still around next year) would be a great choice. Since your daughter is slow to gain weight, 40 pounds could get her to 5 or 6 years old :twocents: . It has a great recline, deep side wings, and built-in lockoffs, all for a low price. I'd check one out.

i would check the ss2 also. i remember seeing my niece in one ff and thought it was in some weird recline mode for rf thats how reclined she was. it might be worth looking at since i know your older daughter is in the signo now.

I went and looked at the Graco SS2 today...I hadn't ever bothered because I just wasn't impressed. BUT you guys are so right! It does have an amazing recline to it!! What is the top harness measurement?

LOL. I think everyone's confused. This is not for my skinny minny oldest (who WOULD easily fit in a 40 lb seat until she goes to college) She has low tone also, that's why we got her the Signo. But I refuse to use it RFing at her height so it's only for FFing. But by the time she is heavy enough to FF, who knows how old she will be. I haven't tried it enough yet to see how it works with low tone

I figured RFing would just solve the tone problem until I HAVE to deal with it

But my youngest now is having tone issues and she is much much heavier! I will have to deal with this sooner rather than later.

If they could just up those weight limits, the SS2 seems like the best bet so far

We've done this with Low tone/special needs. we've gone through so many seatsa and we settled for the como then signo. It has such a natural recline to it, plus the headwings really hold that head up and prevent neck flop.

Will she be receiving PT for the tone issues? I't's not unusual for kids with low tone to lose weight, or level out in weight as the PT helps their muscles develop (muscle burns calories) and as they become more active as their tone improves.

ETA: I know of at least one mom who received NHTSA approval to import a Swedish seat for her low tone child.

We have the SS2 and the Como. I actually prefer the SS2! I love the SIP and the recline feature is nice. I love the lock offs for non-latch cars. It buckles nicely -nice no-twisty harness. The top slot is very close to my marathon - so it is nice and tall. If you can find one cheap (albeebaby has them pretty cheap) - it might be a nice "in between" seat - you could use it for 2 years or so, then move younger daughter to the Como and then older daughter could move into something if she's ready at that point (like a frontier or GN)

That sounds like a good idea actually. I'm not sure how much longer they will be around and if they discontinue them I could probably find one at a decent price in a year or so. I tried my oldest in one two months ago and LOVED it but everyone here seemed to hate it

Maybe I will do that. Obviously other seats could come out in the mean time, but I think for now, the SS2 might be my best bet once she is too big to RF, to just get her to the point where she may thin out a little bit and can go in the Signo. With her chunk right now, I just don't like how the Signo fits her(and she doesn't like the headwings)

ETA: She is getting OT and PT for low tone, they both are. And I hope it's not true they lose weight!! My oldest can't afford that! LOL

Thanks guys
