Question What to do with unexpired seat?

So what do you do with older infant seats that have been outgrown but aren't expired yet? We have a Snugride with a DOM of 2/14/04 and we purchased an extra base in the summer of 2008 (not sure what the DOM is on that one). I don't want to donate it to an organization (and many don't take them for obvious liability issues) for fear of it being used past the expiration date, but I don't really want to destroy it yet when there is life left in it. Also, do the bases expire in 6 years as well?

What to do with the seat other than have it hold baby blankets by the diaper bag?

I'm pretty sure the base that came with the seat expires with the car seat - It should have a date molded into them just like the infant seat.

If you're not planning on having another baby and using the seat before it expires then I would sell it. (as long as you have the user manual, the seat has all the lables and it's never been in a crash, obviously.) While it's not a good idea to purchase used car seats because you don't know the history of the seat you are buying, I don't see anything wrong with selling a perfectally good seat. At least you know you're "saving" someone from purchasing a used seat from a thrift store or garage sale!

You could also check with your local CPST/CPST-I/Safe Kids coalition to see if it would be useful for training purposes.
