SouthWest Official Car Seat Policy

A while ago I had an issue with a gate attendant of SouthWest who threatened to take me off my flight because I told him I wasn't going to install our seat forward facing. So I wrote a letter to the company complaining and explaining that the rude guy was in the wrong b/c of the FAA policy. They replied:

"According to our policy, an infant weighing less than 20 pounds should face aft. A child weighing 20-40 pounds should face forward. However, the parent/guardian may elect to have the carseat face either direction."

Sweet now I'll carry this with me next time I fly SW.

Why is it, that air lines know more then we do about our own car seats? You are not the first nor the last to complaine about an air line that knows better then the parent on how to use a car seat. I am sorry for the silly person who thinks they know better then you do. Its allready a stressful day as it is traveling with little ones, and then they add more stress to your travel day, by telling you how to keep your child safe.

I was getting on a QANTAS flight with the car seat and the flight attendant offered to take it and install it. So did the shuttle driver taking us to the airport, and my father at our destination. PEOPLE, it's my (DS's) seat, I install it all the time, so I know what I am doing. DH just laughed, like I was going to let someone else install the seat.
