Vent Chrysler will no longer install free tether anchors

After several phone calls to Chrysler HQ this is the final verdict re: my friend needing anchors in her '96 T&C.

I just talked to Jay at Chrysler...Lisa got a hold of him and gave him my info. He called my Chrysler dealer and talked to the service manager and this is the conclusion:

Dealers are no longer being reimbursed by Chrysler because it was a recall and there is a time limit on it.

They did offer her a discount, but that will not usually be the case.

I'll cross post this in my original post.

I just got an email last week. Someone talked to the Engineer resposible for child passenger safety at Chrysler. She stated the do still do it. This was for a 1998 Chrysler Town & Country.

They just put in 6 (yes 6!) completely free anchors in my 97 T & C two weeks ago. I only requested 5 but an extra one come so they installed it "in case I every wanted to move the bench seat to the middle and do three across".

I'm aware they were. But, as of this morning, they aren't. Some dealers may still do it, but that won't be for long- since they won't be getting reimbursed for it.

I'd want to see this in writing. It's a relatively long standing policy and it seems strange that they would just cut it without any sort of notice.

Well, the two people that she spoke with this morning are the "heads" of getting the anchors installed for free. Lisa, whom it's my understanding has worked with others here, took it to her superior who said no, it's outdated and they're no longer offering them for free. My friend's dealer was told they (Chrysler) would give a partial reimbursement this time only.

Feel free to contact Lisa at Chrysler HQ. This info came from her.

I don't trust your information. When I called Chrysler HQ about getting tether anchors installed last year, they had no clue what I was talking about. My local (fabulous) dealer took just a few minutes to find the details of the program (I think it was called Fit for a Kid or something like that) and arrange my appointment for free installation.

It is my understanding that Lisa Townsend-Moore is the person that approved it last week AND the person that said today that dealers will no longer be reimbursed. From what I understand she got this info from her superior. Dealers may still do it for now, but as they don't get reimbursed, I'm quite sure they'll stop.

Like I said above, they did offer my friend a one time discount for her trouble (would still cost her $50).

I had a mom come in yesterday who just had 2 TAs installed and they charged her $85. She said that was simply for parts, they didn't charge for labor. We have always had a good Chrysler dealer here as they used to have a fitting station etc (at least the one we go to) so if they charged it must be soemthing new.

I contacted Lisa Townsend regarding this and referred her to this thread. Here is her response:

" We (Chrysler) will still offer to install top tether anchors in cars manufactured before the 2000 MY and trucks before the 2001 MY without top tether anchorages. Customers should tell their dealers to reference TSB 23-08-00 Rev B which gives direction for the dealer to obtain reimbursement. If there are still issues the customer call center should be contacted at 1-800-992-1997. There are no plans to terminate this program now or in the future."

So, I guess I'm confused as to why another tech was told that the program has been discontinued, and why this info apparently came from the same person who told you different?

I referred Lisa to this thread - she does not recall telling anyone the information that it was going away. There is mis-information at the dealerships which Lisa is currently working on to clear up.

can you refer her to my thread and ask what she thinks I should do? I know her contact info is floating around, but don't want to inundate her with emails from a bunch of c-s.org posters.

I moved this thread over to the Carseat Chat section of the forum with a redirect from its original location in the News, Press Releases and Media section of the forum for all to find it. It seems more appropriate to have it here in Chat while the official status of the Chrysler tether anchor retrofit program is being confirmed.
