Tether anchor install ? in a T&C **Update in #8

I have an online mom looking to get an anchor installed in a '96 T&C. The dealer told her the installation is no longer free. My purple tether book still says it should be free. I did give her the service bulletin #, but the dealer said that's old. Anyone know the updated info? Sorry, I'm a bit out of the loop.

Also, does anyone know if this is an easy install her dh could do. We did ours on the rear shelves of several cars with no problem. Would the van be any different?

Thanks!

The Purple 2007 Tether manual should have the most up-to-date info available. I did hear recently of other Chrysler and Dodge dealers claiming the service bulletin is no longer in date. I could be wrong, but I believe they called Chrysler Corporate and were told the service bulletin is still in effect. Maybe you could call corporate if the dealer isn't being helpful. If Chrysler isn't going to honor that service bulletin anymore (in other words, it's too old) they need to make it PUBLICLY known, through SRN at the very least.

$185 when it's supposed to free, ouch. The increased frequency of complaints about dealers attempting to charge customers for what is supposed to be a free retrofit is disheartening. My hunch is that it's due to the tighter economic times in the auto industry. :( Corporate and the dealerships definitely need better communication to end this recurring pattern of turning away consumers attempting to have the retrofit policy honored. It creates a negative impression and leaves the consumer less likely to patronize that dealership or vehicle manufacturer for future vehicle needs.

I agree.

I'm so thankful she knew to ask me, but I think of all the countless parents that either pay or just don't get the anchor. :(

This is what I just received from her.

Well, I just spent 19 minutes 7 seconds (my phone has a timer ) on the phone w/ Chrysler. They insist that they are no longer reimbursing for anchors and they dont know who Lisa townsend-moore is. So I am going to try the email route. I will keep you updated!

This is the info she received this morning.

Conclusion -

I just talked to Jay at Chrysler...Lisa got a hold of him and gave him my info. He called my Chrysler dealer and talked to the service manager and this is the conclusion:

Dealers are no longer being reimbursed by Chrysler because it was a recall and there is a time limit on it.
