Today was my DS's 15-month wbc. His father wants to put him ff (that's another issue...). My ped- who is around 72 said, "So that means he's still facing the back seat? Well that sounds boring to me!" HE said of course- 1 yr and 20 lbs and then he can move FF. I said well I've read SO many articles, etc. stating the benefits and safety of extended RF. What would you do? Would you talk to the ped.? Bring some articles in? Clearly his information is outdated since even the AAP now recs. extended RF.... I guess he's telling this to all of his patients..that's so sad.(Oh in my car he's in a Britax Marathon and comfortably riding RF, in his father's he's in a Britax Boulevard- he thinks his legs are "squished". I know that's not true!!!)

Take info into the doc---including the AAP recs. Tell dad to do some research and see what he can find that says you should turn him FF, he simply won't find it.

Bring in info to the office. Did the doc mention the ff? Or did you bring it up? My ped never mentioned it at the 1 year check. I didn't either. I'll be there again in Nov. seeing a different ped. I wonder if she'll bring it up. My mom on Sun. saw my ds rf in the Blvd. and thought his legs looked to bent. Went through the whole thing about him hurting them in a crash. So I had to explain to her that he's fine the whole story. I quess I'll be doing that alot now since he's 13mts and tall.

Bottom line, for me, is that YOU know the benefits of ERF and you're practicing it. (Yay for you and your dc! :D)

But if you are concerned and want to try to educate your ped the things that I think would be most effective are the AAP recommendations (they've updated the wording to more clearly recommend ERF):

http://www.aap.org/family/carseatguide.htm

and the Feb 2008 Journal of Pediatrics article, reiterating the AAP recommendations (only the excerpt is here):

and the Injury Prevention study:
