Airplane travel w/ car seat for older child..

I was wondering if anyone has used a car seat on a plane for a 5 y/o?

We are traveling home for x-mas and I would like to use my car seat on all our plane trips (7 total) and I was wondering if I will run into any problems w/ the flight crew about my ds using his car seat?

I don't want to check it because I don't want it to get damaged or lost.
They lost our luggage for a week the last time we flew home to the states ( I had my car seat w/ us)

Should I have my ds pedi write a note stating that he must use it? He really does like his seat and I think that it would make the trip easier and more comfortable for him.

(I hope that I posted this in the right thread topic)

Assuming an American seat on an American carrier, you shouldn't have any issues. But if you're flying foreign carriers a note probably won't hurt.

I used Abigail's seat on the plane in January. She was 5 1/2. The FA thought it was silly on one flight. Our flight home they praised the fact she was in her carseat still. They also heard her tell me to make her harness tighter. :)

AJ was 4.5yo last time we flew w/ him, he was about 42# or so and no one batted an eye. They also didn't say anything about Evan (almost 3 then) rfing in his seat.

Reilly flew in his Futura when he was pushing 6yo...the only issue we had was with the FA on one flight not liking the non-standard FAA sticker on it.

Yes, the last time my 9 yr old travel in her MA was when she was almost 6 yrs old and near the end of fitting in it. We flew between Canada and the US for the trip and it was fine.

A note would never hurt to have on hand.

When we flew home from Germany, Roman was 7 and Eva was 5, and both rode in Marathons. (Nadia was 2 and rode RF in a Roundabout.) I had one FA start to say something about Nadia being RF, but I just said (in a rather irritated voice--I was rather tired by that point), "This is how it goes," and she backed off. No trouble at all with Roman & Eva being in seats.

It makes me feel better knowing that I should not have a problem.

I know that when I leave Au that they always question me about my seat which is a blvd because no one here ever uses a car seat on a plane.
