Question car seat installation in '08 Honda Odyssey

I just bought a new '08 Honda Odyssey and am trying to install my Britax Marathon car seat in the 2nd row. I moved my two captain chairs side by side and removed the small middle seat. I want to install the car seat in the middle, which is seemingly safer. My daughter weighs 41 lbs and is almost 3yrs old and about 40" tall. 1) Can I still use the latch to install the car seat? The manual for the car seat says the latches are fine until 48 lbs, but is that safe for the vehicle latches? 2) The seat belt for that middle captain seat comes from the wall of the van, not the seat or sealing. Is it safe to install a car seat or even to strap a person into a middle seat, where the seat belt stretches over so much space? 3) Can I use the tether until she outgrows the car seat? Why are car seats so complicated!?!?!?! Thanks for you help.

Your second to last sentence made me giggle

Yes, it is complicated. Yes, it's confusing, but thank goodness for car-seat.org!

Welcome, btw :)

Honda only allows LATCH installations in their vehicles until the child is 40lbs. Even though your Britax allows you to go up to 48lbs, in a Honda you must go by the 40lb rule.

So you will need to use the seatbelt. You can use the seatbelt that will stretch all the way across to block the third row. Thankfully with the Marathon it should be fairly easy.

Once installed make sure the seat doesn't move more than an inch side to side, or front to back.

Always, always, always use the top tether. Honda will say not to use it past 40lbs, but this is where car seat technicians and advocates will say it's ok. Here is an article that will explain this :) The Use of Tethers for Children
Weighing Over 40 Pounds

Congrats on your new van!

honestly with your dd being 41 lbs and 3 yrs i wouldn't hesitate to put her outboard. geting the seat belt to stretch that far was a pain. since it blocks access to the third row. but then again i need my third row if you don't then give it a shot you cn always change it if you don't like it.
