If you're installing carseats in both the 2nd and the 3rd row of a vehicle, and the 2nd row is adjustable (i.e., can be moved several inches forward or back), what do you do?

(Poll to follow.)

Edited to clarify: For the purposes of this poll, you may assume that all affected passengers are forward facing, and that everyone has enough leg room to fit (if not to stretch) no matter where the 2nd row is positioned (e.g., when the 2nd row is all the way forward, the 2nd row passengers have just enough room for their legs, and when it is all the way back, the 3rd row passengers just fit).

In my 2001 Ody, I currently have 2 big kids in the 3rd row and a rf seat in one of the captain chairs. So the rf is in the 'middle' with the other captain chair not in the van, the rf seat is somewhat forward to make some leg room for the 3rd row and the passenger front seat is a bit forward to make room for the rf seat. The older kids can get out on either side of the rf carseat.

I would choose "Marvin for President" but I figure you might want answer, so with this scenario and your poll choices, I chose "Move it partially forward."

Not even sure if that's what you are looking for :)

I would leave it where it is, wherever that may be. But, if I did hassle with it, I guess I would try to get it centered so everyone could have a little wiggle room.
But I'm not sure I understand this question... Are the pasengers in the third row occasional? Then I would say move the seat back.

The second row seats as far back as possible to allow that there is enough room for 32 inches of head excursion for untethered 3rd row passengers - if everyone is harnessed and tethered then far enough back to allow for 26 inches of head excursion.

In short, the 2nd row as far back as possible while also keeping the 3rd row occupants safe -- get out your measuring tape & don't forget to measure from the back of the auto seat, not where your child's head normally rests!

my 2nd row seats (not sure if it's this way with the 2nd row bench) in my Caravan can't move forward and back, so I had to put Clicky Box, since there was no option to reflect that.

Same as Gypsy here...I've been known to move them for various passengers if I know they are taller or shorter etc. (and I moved the passenger side captain's chair to the middle for those without seats or in backless boosters: least protected passenger in the most protected spot, right? no curtain airbags in mine, so those next to the windows must be harnessed or in highback boosters).

Mine don't move. Since anyone getting into the third row has to climb over seats I put the three forward facing ones in the middle. (No climbing.) Then the two rfing ones are in back because they'd have to climb anyway. We all go through the cargo door.

Old minivan: I had 2 rf in the middle row with 2 booster in the 3rd row. I moved the passenger seats all the way forward so older kids could get in and out behind the 2nd row captain chair. Most of the time we only had me and the kids in the vehicle. We just moved seats forward and backward when all 6 of us were in the minivan.

New Subruban: We have 2 in middle row and 2 in 3rd row, but I have the passenger seat flipped forward all the time.
