Question "built-in" care seats?

Are those carseats that are "built-in" to the vehicle good? I'm scared to ask this because we have been using ours for awhile now. We have a 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan. Part of the seat folds down and it has a 5-point harness seat-belt inside. Are these safe? We always assumed they were, but now I'm second-guessing.....

They are safe, as long as the children using them are within the height/weight requirements that are set. The downside to the built-in seats is there's not really side-impact protection & they can't be removed...so if your van broke down and someone had to pick you and the kids up, you wouldn't have seats to transport your kids in.

My mom has them in her minivan. We use them instead of moving ours to her minivan. Our kids only go to town in the minivan which is about 7 miles. Only one of our 4 kids currently fits. Her seats go to 50 pounds which is great.
