need weight limit on tether for a van

Hi, I don't have my LATCH manual yet, and need to check on the Top Tether weight limit for a 2005 Chevy Express 15 passenger van. Thanks!

According to the list by vehicle manufacturer from the LATCH manual at http://www.saferidenews.com/pdfs/pg_126_max_wt_07.pdf, it's 48 lbs. if used with the lower LATCH anchors, and 40 lbs. if used with the seatbelt. That said, the LATCH manual also recommends continuing to use the top tether for a harnessed forward facing child restraint at any child weight due to the safety benefits of top tethering (reduced head excursion). GM vehicles have a LATCH limit of 48 lbs, though the TA limit is only 40 lbs when using the seatbelt.

Also, Safe Ride News recommends that you continue to use the top tether anchor beyond the vehicle manufacturer's stated weight limit because the overall benefits of tethering are considered worth it. So although you will have to switch to a seatbelt install at 48 lbs, you may still want to use the top tether.
