U-haul trailers?

Anything I should know? We'll be towing one full of crap on Monday, with our 03 Durango. Probably the cheapest/smallest one. 700 miles or so, Georgia to Indiana.

Thanks!

the durango will have no problems towing a u-haul trailer. just make sure you have the industry-standard 4-wire connector installed on your vehicle for the trailer lighting. and make sure that the trailer lights actually work... the u-haul techs sometimes don't bother checking. also make sure that the safety chains are properly secured in case of hitch failure.

remember that your stopping distance will be much greater, so anticipate stops more in advance and slow down sooner...

good luck!

:yeahthat: to spb.

If you don't have the plug on your vehicle, an adapter is available for most vehicles made since the 90's, and they are easy to install and relatively cheap ($25.00). Heavy objects should be on or in front of the trailer axle, so that you don't get a negative tongue weight, and the total weight of the trailer should not exceed 2000lbs if it is not equipped with electric trailer brakes and break away system. Safety chains need to cross over each other (left chain to right side of vehicle and vice versa), and CAN NOT be attached to the bumper (should be attached to frame or designated area on hitch). If you are using the bumper hitch, make sure it is rated for the weights you are towing (very likely is). Check tire condition and pressure, and if possible carry a spare for your trailer, because your vehicles spare will unlikely fit. This is a prime opportunity to use the D/OD selector. If you are on level ground and the vehicle will stay in OD, it is fine to use this gear with the lower weights, however if you are on hilly terrain, and your vehicle is shifting between D and OD, it is best to turn the OD off (remember to watch you RPM's and don't rev the engine too much: no driving 75mph with the OD off ;) )

P.S. don't pull a beeman and back up tight around a corner and wreck your bumper  ... or go down a snowy ditch  .

Happy towing!

Thanks! :D
DH is out getting a ball now.

Looks like the hardest part of this is going to be packing a whole house in 2 days. In a tropical storm. :ROTFLMAO:
