Britax Marathon RF - 33 lbs with or without clothing?

Should the weight of clothing/shoes be a factor in deciding how long to rear face?

I weighed my son last night before tubby time,,,I was so thrilled to find he is actually wavering betwwen 30.5 and 31...not 32, as I thought.

Can I rear face him longer,,or should he be swapping seat with his 4.4 year old, 32 lbs sister (using the Radian 65 FF)???

What do you think?

I go by the fully clothed weight as the harness will have to restrain your child and the clothes that are on him. Makes sense that you would have to count the weight of his clothing.

You should consider your child's weight clothed, shoed, with a full belly, and with any outerwear he might wear. (No puffy clothing, of course.)

And probably with a full diaper, too. :)

thank you so much - too bad though...I don't think we're gonna make it to 2 years old in this seat.

Maybe I should buy a new radian which would be good for 2 more pounds and then probably better for him FFing with the SafeStop to 40. I've considered swapping seats,,,Radian RF for him and putting Big Sister (4.5, 32 lbs) back into the Marathon - but I feel the added Security of the Safestop is a bonus for her since she is so lightweight,,,or maybe it isn't as beneficial to her as I am thinking it is?

I think how beneficial the safestop is is more related to age than weight, it's just that lighter ff'ing kids tend to be younger as well and have less developed spinal columns. I think it's a great feature though, and as long as a kid is light enough to use it it's likely beneficial regardless of age, particularly in high speed collisions.

If you'd like the safestop feature when your ds is ff'ing anyways, then I'd just get a 2nd radian - it will last longer by height anyways, and you already know you like the seat.

yes and since the Marathon expires in 2 year anyway - the Radian is something he could ride in for longer...He is about to outgrow the Roundabout in my mom's car - I could maybe fit the MA in there instead.

Thank you :)

Safestop is on the Radian, it lets the harness pull out a little more, so the head and shoulders can move together in a crash, rather than the head just slamming forward all by itself so hard. It's for FF children up to 40 pounds when the seat is top tethered. New Britaxes have a similar function in their rip stitch tether (it's on the Marathon/BV/DC and Frontier).
