Pictures and measurements of the new Safety 1st On Board seat

So today I went to BRU and took some measurements of the new Safety 1st "On Board" infant seat... (well actually it was the seat that comes with the new 'Endeavor" travel system, but it's the same thing). (sorry for the big pics...can't figure out how to resize them!)

Let's start with harness slot height....
The lowest slot measured at about 5"
And the tallest slot measured at about 10.5"

Interestingly...the shell height measures at about 20" tall, which was almost comparable to the Graco Safeseat! It's a shame they didn't crash test this seat from 4-30lbs! (it's 4-22lbs)

And yes, the seat pan depth is deeper than the other seats I measured (including the Graco Safeseat). The seat pan depth is about 13" long while on the black and blue snugride it is about 11" long.

Overall, I was impressed with the seat!
Oh and it also had EPS foam from about waist-level to the top of the shell, a front adjust harness, and 3 crotch buckle positions.

I *heart* this seat! Everytime I go there I pet it. ;) I just wish we didn't already have the whole Safeseat system worked out with my sisters and mom. It will just be easier for me to get the Safeseat since we already have all the bases and such. Boohoo! I LOVE the Endeavor system(yes, I admit I love travel systems!).

WOW! I am VERY impressed with this seat! Now they DO need to make it a 30lb seat & it would be even better! I think they did a good job! Thanks for all the pictures & measurements!

Do you happen to know if the Safety 1st On Board is similar to the Sure Fit that we have in Canada? It's also 4 to 22lbs. Has built in lock-offs on the base and the same kind of level indicator on the carrier that I saw in your pic's.

The one here is the montecito pattern, and the cover/slots line up horribly. Was the store model of yours like that too? It's otherwise a nice seat - I'm not sure if the one you have pictures of is the same seat or not though. (Gotta love Dorel and their many names for the identical seat.)

SnowBird, the Safety 1st On Board and Eddie Bauer Sure Fit are the exact same seat. As is typical of Dorel, they're marketing the seam seat using different names under different labels.

Wow, I really like that seat. It looks comfy too. Too bad its only to 22lbs. And I am trading my jeep stroller for a babytrend seat.

why didn't they test it to 35lbs?? I would love to see the Opus reborn... which is what seat I'm thinking of when I see the measurements... I never got to have one of those... and in an age of the SS1, Keyfit30, the Peg Perego 30lb limit seat, and a rising trend in higher weight limits for infant seats, I'd love to see this trend go further.

I know, but I want it APPROVED to 30-35lbs... it looks like it would hold a child to a high enough weight.

Though I do like how small it goes for smaller babies... and I guess you can't have everything.

Besides, there is the Avenue to follow it with... or an EFTA or the 50lb limit 3-in-1 or a Truefit.

It looks interesting! :)

Kat- you liked the Opus? I didn't. I haven't liked any of Dorel's infant seats so far. I hope this new one changes my mind! :)

well, I liked the idea of it... I like the newer designer 22's and other newer infant seats they've been throwing (just not that one that had the weird base a few years back... what the heck was that all about?) since they switched to front adjusters.

Their infant seats tend to be lower priced, so since there are so many more changes I'd make FIRST to the evenflo ones, and with them having made an infant seat with a high limit before, they're the ones I am looking for one to come from.

At some point, I'd like to see every company that makes infant seats have a 22lb limit seat that starts at 4lbs and a 30-35lb limit infant seat to accomodate large babies.

Crossing my fingers that we get the 35 pound version in Canada! I so would like to have an option other than the SafeSeat for a HW bucket. The KeyFit only goes to 22 pounds here, same with the PP. :( What I like about this is how the foam starts at waist level! The SafeSeats we get here don't have foam that low (not even close) and in the winter, the base transfers the cold from the plastic right through the seat to baby's back. :(

Does this one have an actual splitter plate, or is it that weird fabric strip with the funky re-threading issue? (kwim?)

How was the handle to put up and down? Was it anything like the flexloc or just normal? Thanks for posting this!
