Too tall to RF in Alpha Omega Elite?

My son is 18 months old, 34.75" tall and 25.5 pounds at last checkup (2 weeks ago). I was adjusting his harness in this seat (this is a secondary, he usually rides in his Britax Blvd) and he has maybe an inch of shell left over his head. Is this possible? He is all torso but I would have never thought they outgrew them so quickly. He has less than an inch of the head support, which do I go by? What are my options? We really don't want to buy another Britax right now, we were thinking of getting the Frontier when he is too big to RF but I thought I had ATLEAST another 6 months.

Thanks,
Susan

It's a short seat. My kid outgrew the older version by height both RF & FF at about 2 years old with almost another 2 years worth of room in the Boulevard.

I can't remember now, but I think the manual says it must be used FF at 34" tall? (Dorel Juvenile is the only company with such a dumb rule)

My manual says 36" and he has a little room but is it the height of the head support (which is slightly lower) or the height of the outer shell?

Thanks,
Susan

I never considered this a short seat, AJ had a really tall torso and made it to about 36" in this seat rfing, he outgrew it ffing a matter of mos later.

I wouldn't consider it "short" either. I think most kids could easily get to 2 in it. DS was 1" from the top by 18 months though, same as the scenera. I think he was 34".

Yes, but your ds has monster torso, lol, I can tell by where he's at in the Regent. I always though AJ had a long torso till I met some of the kids on here. :p

I know DS is an exception, which is why I try not to judge seats based on when HE outgrew them. I tell myself over and over, "But MOST kids will fit fine!" LOL

at that weight and age I would be more comfortable buying a combination RF/FF seat. He is still pretty light.

That was about the age my son outgrew the AOE. He RFed in his Radian up until 2 years 10 days. Can you do a true fit or something instead as a backup? I would still keep him RFing. I think I was told the true fit goes to 35lbs RFing and I am not sure what it goes to FFing. Sorry. Maybe a tech can say.

IT goes to 65#, it's about the same size as the MA I think strap height wise. I really liked the Radian, it will last a long time rfing. Had AJ been under the weight limit, he could've been rfing for another year or so in it over the AO.

Thank you Jennifer!

I REALLY like my radian. I LOVE my radian. I was just thinking something a bit cheaper because it is a second seat. That is what other techs have suggested as a less expensive seat. I would totally recommend the radian. It can be tricky to install but once you know how to do it you will fly through it.
