A few days ago, we took the annual trip to our elementary school to see the posted list of classes for the coming school year that starts next week! Lots of kids were elated to find they got the teacher they wanted or a best friend in their class. A number were sad because they didn’t. Most [...]

We are just newbies to the world of school (we have a kindergartner) and school busses, but after years of being a carseat fanatic, it sooooo rubs me the wrong way to put him on a vehicle without a seatbelt. I know the stats, but compartmentalization and sheer size ONLY protect if the bus doesn't roll, if all heads and arms remain INSIDE the bus, and if it doesn't get struck by a semi. These examples are ALL real life incidents that have occurred in my state in the past few years.

So that said, how much do you think it would cost to retrofit a school bus with IMMI school bus seatbelts? Does anyone think it is even a possibility for fundraisers to raise enough to retrofit a bus a year or more? Would it even be worth it?

The IMMI school bus lap/shoulder seats are very impressive. I have no doubt they would be safer. The question I can't answer is if it is cost effective. With school busses already very safe, that's something only the school districts can decide.

I think it is California where they have some new requirements for lap/shoulder belts. Many school districts apparently bought all new buses before the law took effect so they could get cheaper buses:/

I'm not sure lap/shoulder belts would be safer.

Safer in a crash? Absolutely.

Safer in a fire? NO!

One adult to dozens of children, can you imagine trying to get them all off the bus quickly in a fire if they are all seatbelted in?
