The Kyle David Miller Foundation, kyledavidmiller.org, now has rear-facing vehicle magnets for sale. I have one of their magnets and it certainly helps spread the word!!!!

I am not affiliated with this organization, however I fully support their efforts. I have a magnet and t-shirt and it certainly helps spread the word. I have even been asked for information and since I am dying to become a certified installer, I try to help. I have to keep my day job but maybe one day. In the meantime, if I can help keep more children safe - I'm SO happy!

I have a question. I saw the KDM's first video awhile ago (before I found this site). Seeing that a seatbelt doesn't always work, and that they should have put Kyle (over 40 pounds) in a harnessed seat, anchored and tethered to the car confuses me. LATCH only holds to 40/ 48 pounds. So if your child is over that LATCH limit, you must use the seatbelt to hold the carseat in the vehicle. So if Kyle had been in a harnessed seat to begin with, and his seatbelt still malfunctioned, the carseat wouldn't have saved him.

I'm NOT questioning the work of Kyle's family. And I'm not questioning the safety of HWH seats. My question is more about the vehicle seatbelts. Did Kyle's seatbelt malfunction because he was too small??

No, he happened to be sitting there in the unfortunate 0.00005% or whatever of times that the seatbelt fails.

However, had he been in a harnessed seat, LATCHed or no, he would have been still connected to it. It would have acted as a spinal stabilizer, and it may have prevented him from being ejected.

The KDMF got off to a rocky start, giving out a lot of bad information. Well intentioned, but bad. Like LATCH is the only way to go, the Regent is the only seat that will harness that long (nevermind torso heights). But they're evening out now. They've got research and educated techs on staff now rather than just grieving parents and friends, and they're doing a lot of good in the community.

Thanks Wendy. After seeing all the videos here and learning everything I've learned here, I'd been wanting to ask about that video I'd seen so long ago that seemed to give me misinformation, but wasn't sure where to find it. Now going to the site I found it. I also saw their new video, and see the good they're doing.

And BTW- I'll be buying the ERF magnet for my car :)

Thanks Wendy for clarifying before I could. The organization has contacts with lots of very educated people. I wasn't familiar with them when they first started and didn't know it was rocky. But, I've come to respect them greatly and want to not only help their organization but just get the word out to have children in 5 point harnesses as long as possible.
